Feed.prospeedcheck.com Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is feed.prospeedcheck.com?
feed.prospeedcheck.com is a fake search engine (similar or identical to search.hyourtelevisionnow.com, searcholive.com, findprivate.online, and many others). Like most search engines of this type, feed.prospeedcheck.com is promoted using a browser hijacker (a potentially unwanted application or PUA) called Pro Speed Check.
Developers state that this app allows users to test connection performance and offers an improved browsing experience and search results. In fact, most users install PUAs inadvertently. Furthermore, this app and its associated fake search engine record information relating to browsing activity.
When installed, the Pro Speed Check browser hijacker targets Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer. It changes browser settings such as default search engine, homepage, and new tab URL by assigning them to feed.properformancecheck.com.
Therefore, users are forced to visit this website when they open a hijacked browser or a new tab. It also prevents users from undoing/changing these settings - it reassigns them as soon as any attempt is made to change them. The only way to revert the changes is to remove this browser hijacker.
Furthermore, feed.properformancecheck.com is a useless search engine, since once a search query is entered, it redirects users to search.yahoo.com (a legitimate Yahoo search engine) and displays results provided by Yahoo.
Another downside of Pro Speed Check and feed.properformancecheck.com is that they record browsing-related data such as IP addresses, keystrokes, search queries, URLs of visited websites, and so on. It also records personal details that developers share with third parties (potentially also cyber criminals) who misuse private information to generate revenue.
Do not use any fake search engines and remove all potentially unwanted apps (including Pro Speed Check).

Developers of browser-hijacking apps or fake search engines promote these products as 'useful' and encourage users to take advantage of the features (such as an enhanced browsing experience, improved search results, etc.), however, these are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimacy and to trick people into downloading and using them.
These apps (and promoted search engines) usually cause problems relating to privacy, browsing safety, etc.
How did Pro Speed Check install on my computer?
Pro Speed Check can be downloaded from its website, however, potentially unwanted applications of this type are often installed unintentionally via intrusive ads or together with regular software when developers use a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".
Software developers hide bundled/unwanted apps in "Custom", "Advanced", "Manual" and other similar settings of the installation (or download) set-ups. They do not provide proper information regarding these apps. Therefore, inadvertent installations usually occur when users skip installation steps without paying attention to the details.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Avoid using untrustworthy sources torrents or other third party software downloaders) to get your software. Use official channels and direct links only. Do not skip download/installation steps without checking "Custom", "Advanced" and other additional options/settings. Deselect all unwanted additional software/applications and only then finish the installation process.
Avoid clicking intrusive ads, especially those displayed on untrustworthy websites. If you encounter ads and redirects to suspicious websites (gambling, adult dating, pornography, and so on), check the list of installed extensions (or add-ons and plug-ins) on your browser and remove all unknown/unwanted entries.
Also, check the list of installed programs on your computer. If your computer is already infected with Pro Speed Check, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
