Eliminate redirects to the courselfan.pro website

Also Known As: courselfan.pro pop-up
Damage level: Medium

What is courselfan[.]pro?

courselfan[.]pro is yet another rogue website that shares similarities with newsfrog.mewithingadvertly.prodeloplen.com, and many others. This site redirects users to other dubious websites and displays dubious content.

Many visitors arrive at courselfan[.]pro inadvertently - they are redirected by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) or intrusive advertisements displayed on other rogue sites. Research shows that PUAs usually infiltrate systems without users' consent. Furthermore, most deliver intrusive advertisements and gather information.

courselfan[.]pro pop-up redirects

Potentially unwanted applications force-open new browser tabs/windows and redirect users to courselfan[.]pro. This site then checks the visitor's IP address to determine the geolocation of the system. This is done to determine whether the user should be presented with certain content or redirected even further.

In any case, users might end up encountering malicious content (whether delivered by courselfan[.]pro or other sites). Thus, redirects to and from courselfan[.]pro can lead to high-risk computer infections. The same applies to intrusive advertisements.

PUAs deliver coupons, banners, pop-ups, and other similar advertisements, which often redirect to dubious websites and might even execute scripts that download/install malware. Clicking them can lead to system infections. In addition, intrusive ads are delivered using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site.

Therefore, they often conceal underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience. In addition, unwanted applications usually gather IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other similar data relating to browsing activity.

This information is shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse private data to generate revenue. Therefore, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. All PUAs should be uninstalled immediately.

There are hundreds of potentially unwanted applications that share many similarities. By offering "useful features", PUAs attempt to give the impression of legitimacy and trick users to install, however, these programs are designed only to generate revenue for the developers.

Rather than giving any real value for regular users, unwanted applications cause redirects, deliver advertisements, and gather information, thereby diminishing the browsing experience and posing a threat to your privacy/computer safety.

How did adware install on my computer?

As mentioned above, PUAs usually infiltrate computers without users' consent, since developers proliferate them using the intrusive advertisements and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" (stealth installation of third party software with regular apps).

Developers know that users often rush download/installation processes and skip steps. Therefore, "bundled" applications are concealed behind "Custom/Advanced" settings (or other sections) of the download/installation processes. Furthermore, users who click advertisements and skip download/installation steps often inadvertently install rogue applications.

The main reasons for computer infections are poor knowledge of these threats and careless behavior.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

The key to computer safety is caution. Therefore, pay close attention when browsing the Internet and downloading and installing software. Carefully analyze each download/installation step using the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings. Opt-out of additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them.

You are advised to download software from official sources only, using direct download links, since third party downloaders/installers often include rogue apps (developers monetize them using the "bundling" method).

Bear in mind that intrusive advertisements usually seem legitimate, however, once clicked, they redirect to dubious websites such as gambling, adult dating, and pornography - these are just some examples of such sites. In you experience many ads and redirects, eliminate all dubious applications and browser plug-ins.

If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
