Do not trust web pages opened through ytoffline.net

Also Known As: Ads by ytoffline.net
Type: Adware
Damage level: Medium

What is ytoffline[.]net?

ytoffline[.]net is presented as an offline YouTube video downloader. There are many similar pages on the internet, most of which use rogue advertising networks, including ytoffline[.]net. In summary, they contain dubious advertisements and open various untrusted, potentially malicious web pages.

Another problem with services offered by ytoffline[.]net and similar web pages is that it is illegal to download videos from YouTube. Therefore, you are advised against visiting or using this, or similar, websites.

ytoffline[.]net pop-up redirects

At the time of research, ytoffline[.]net opened oakpyxyea[.]com and onlinerpgmaster[.]com. Both of these pages were opened through a number of other dubious web addresses. Note that oakpyxyea[.]com is a rogue web page, which loads dubious content or opens a number of other rogue sites - these actions depend on the visitor's geolocation.

Neither oakpyxyea[.]com nor pages that are opened through it can be trusted. Some examples of other similar sites include maroceffects[.]com and basenews7[.]com. Note that onlinerpgmaster[.]com is an adult gaming page. These sites contain dubious advertisements that lead to other untrustworthy sites or cause unwanted downloads and installations.

Therefore, do not trust onlinerpgmaster[.]com. Furthermore, it is very likely that ytoffline[.]net (or ads displayed on it) will open websites that advertise potentially unwanted applications (PUAs). For example, browser hijackers or adware-type applications.

It is possible that ytoffline[.]net might lead to malicious pages designed to trick visitors into infecting their computers with a Trojan, ransomware, or other malware. Browser hijackers promote fake search engines by changing browser settings. Typically, fake search engines display misleading results or provide those generated by other search engines.

Adware serves coupons, pop-ups, surveys, banners and other advertisements. These usually lead to dubious, potentially malicious pages or execute scripts designed to download or install PUAs.

Adware-type apps and browser hijackers often collect user-system information such as IP addresses, entered search queries, geolocations, addresses of visited websites, and other browsing-related details.

They might also record personal, sensitive data. Ransomware encrypts files so that victims cannot recover them without purchasing decryption tools/keys from the cyber criminals who designed the program. Trojans collect sensitive information and can cause chain infections (i.e., install other malware, including ransomware).

Furthermore, pages such as ytoffline[.]net tend to open various scam pages.

For example, sites such as "International Official Lottery" and "2020 Web Research Survey". Scammers behind these pages attempt to trick visitors into providing sensitive information such as credit card details - they use this information to generate revenue by selling it to third parties, using it to make fraudulent purchases, transactions, etc.

In summary, web pages such as ytoffline[.]net tend to open untrusted sites that can lead to identity theft, monetary, data loss, problems relating to online privacy, browsing safety, unwanted downloads installations, and other issues. Do not trust pages that use rogue advertising networks.

Unfortunately, there are many sites similar to ytoffline[.]net including, for example, ymp4[.]download, mp3pro[.]xyz and yts[.]mx. Commonly, browsers open dubious web pages automatically and/or display ads due PUAs installed on browsers and/or operating systems.

How did adware install on my computer?

Developers include PUAs into download/installation set-ups of other software as 'additional offers'. Usually offers to download and/or install potentially unwanted apps are listed in settings such as "Advanced", "Custom", and "Manual". Many users fail to check and and change these settings when they download or install their programs.

By leaving the default settings unchanged, they allow also PUAs to be downloaded and installed. This PUA distribution method is known as "bundling". PUAs are also downloaded and installed through deceptive ads that run certain scripts, however, this happens only if users click the ads.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

You are advised to download software from trustworthy, official websites and through direct links. Third party downloaders, installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (torrent clients, eMule), unofficial pages, and other channels should not be trusted, since they often are monetized by promoting PUAs.

Check all settings such as "Custom" and "Advanced" and decline offers to download or install additionally included, unwanted apps. Do not click intrusive ads that are shown on dubious web pages, since they can open other untrusted websites or download and install unwanted software.

Remove all unwanted, unknown apps (extensions, add-ons, plug-ins) installed on the browser. Also apply this to software of this kind that is installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
