How to remove mysupertab.com from browser settings

Also Known As: MySuperTab browser hijacker
Damage level: Medium

What is mysupertab.com?

mysupertab.com is the address of a fake search engine. Typically, fake search engines are promoted through potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) classified as browser hijackers. Note that mysupertab.com is promoted through a PUA named MySuperTab.

Apps of this type promote addresses of fake search engines by modifying browser settings. Commonly, browser hijackers also collect various user-system information. Typically, people download and install browser hijackers unintentionally.

mysupertab.com browser hijacker

Most browser hijackers promote fake search engines by changing settings such as the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab. MySuperTab assigns them to mysupertab.com. In summary, browser hijackers load a fake search engine when users open a browser (new window), new tab or enter search queries into the URL bar.

If used, mysupertab.com does not generate any unique results, it simply redirects users to bing.com. Therefore, this search engine displays results generated by Bing. Note that apps of this type often prevent users from removing the address of the fake search engine from settings.

This can only be resolved by uninstalling the browser hijacker. In this case, mysupertab.com can be stopped from being opened by uninstalling MySuperTab. This is not the only reason to uninstall this, and other, browser hijackers.

These apps can gather browsing data (e.g., IP addresses, geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited pages, etc.) and also private, sensitive information. The data is sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue in various ways.

In summary, browser hijackers can cause problems relating to browsing safety, online privacy, and some users might even become victims of identity theft. Therefore, do not trust or use MySuperTab or other browser hijackers.

More examples of apps that are designed to promote some fake search engine are Unit Conversion Tab, Tab Recovery and Shipment Trackers. All promote fake search engines (by changing browser settings) and collect browsing data.

They are often advertised as useful apps that supposedly deliver various features, improve the browsing experience and so on, however, they deliver no real value and simply cause problems.

How did MySuperTab install on my computer?

Browser hijackers and other PUAs are usually downloaded and installed through untrusted, deceptive intrusive ads, or when software developers distribute them using a method called "bundling". They use this distribution method to trick people into downloading and installing PUAs through the set-ups of other programs.

I.e., they include unwanted apps into set-ups and hide related information in "Custom", "Advanced" and similar settings. Unintentional downloads and installations happen when people download and install their programs without checking and changing these settings. When clicked some ads can cause unwanted downloads and installations when they run certain scripts.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

Unwanted downloads and installations can be avoided by downloading files and programs only from official websites and via direct links. Other channels and tools such as third party downloaders/installers, Peer-to-Peer networks such as torrent clients, eMule, dubious websites, etc. can be used to distribute PUAs, and sometimes even malicious programs.

Prevent these rogue downloads and installations by checking the set-ups and declining offers to download or install additionally-included apps. Typically, such offers are mentioned in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings.

Do not click advertisements that are displayed on untrusted websites (e.g., on those relating to pornography, gambling, adult dating, and so on), since they can open untrusted, potentially malicious websites or download and install unwanted apps. Remove unwanted, suspicious apps (extensions, plug-ins, add-ons) that are already installed on the browser.

The same should be applied to programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with MySuperTab, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
