MessengerPlus adware removal instructions
What is MessengerPlus?
MessengerPlus is a rogue application, endorsed as a Facebook messenger for desktop. It is classified as adware, as it runs intrusive advertisement campaigns. In other words, MessengerPlus delivers undesirable and harmful ads. Since most users download/install this app inadvertently, it is also classified as a PUA (Potentially Unwanted Application). Additionally most PUAs collect information relating to users' browsing activity and it is highly likely that MessengerPlus has such data tracking abilities as well.
Adware enables the placement of various pop-ups, banners, surveys, coupons and other intrusive advertisements, typically on any visited website. Therefore, the adverts do not originate from the pages themselves. Intrusive ads severely diminish the browsing experience, as they overlay webpages and/or slow down the browsing speed. However, they are far more than just a nuisance. Upon being clicked, intrusive advertisements redirect to untrustworthy/rogue, sale-based, deceptive, scam, compromised and malicious sites. Furthermore, these ads can be triggered (by being clicked) to execute scripts, designed to download/install software without user permission. One of the prime examples of content infiltrated into systems in this manner are PUAs. Unwanted apps can have other/additional abilities, aside from delivering intrusive ad campaigns. PUAs can force-open similarly dangerous websites. Other types called browser hijackers - modify browsers in order to promote fake search engines. The latter are rarely capable of providing search results, so they redirect to Google, Bing, Yahoo and other legitimate ones. Browser hijacker can also restrict/deny access to browser settings and/or reset any changes made. Most PUAs (adware included) can track data. They can monitor users' browsing habits (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and gather personal information (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). This sensitive data is often monetized by being shared with and/or sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals), seeking to likewise misuse it for profit. To summarize, unwanted apps can lead to system infections, financial losses, serious privacy issues and even identity theft. To ensure device integrity and user safety, all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins must be eliminated immediately upon detection.

MessengerSpot, Best Media Converter, Damn Good Recipe Promos and MusiCalm are a couple examples of other software within the adware classification. It tends to appear legitimate and ordinary. Users are tempted into download/installation with various "useful" features. However, the promised functionalities are usually nonoperational - and this is true of practically all PUAs. Unwanted apps have but one goal - to generate revenue at user expense. Therefore, instead of delivering on any promises, PUAs run intrusive advertisement campaigns, cause redirects to untrustworthy and malicious webpages, hijack browsers and gather personally identifiable information.
How did MessengerPlus install on my computer?
Some PUAs (e.g. MessengerPlus) have "official" promotional sites, from which they can be downloaded. These applications can also be downloaded/installed together with other products. This deceptive marketing method of packing regular software with unwanted or malicious content - is called "bundling". Rushed download and installation processes (e.g. skimmed or ignored terms, skipped steps and sections, used pre-set options, etc.) - increase the risk of unintentionally allowing bundled additions into devices. Intrusive ads proliferate PUAs as well. Once clicked on, they can execute scripts to stealthily download/install software.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is strongly recommended to research products before download/installation and/or purchase. All downloads should be done from official ad verified sources. Unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks (BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella, etc.) and other third party downloaders - commonly offer deceptive and/or bundled content, therefore they are deemed to be untrustworthy. When downloading/installing, it is important to read terms, study all available options, use the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings and opt-out from supplementary apps, tools, functions and other additions. Intrusive advertisements typically appear legitimate, however they redirect to unreliable and questionable pages (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, etc.). In case of encounters with adverts/redirects of this kind, users must inspect the system and immediately remove all suspect applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins from it. If your computer is already infected with MessengerPlus, we recommend running a scan with Malwarebytes for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
