Weather Discover browser hijacker removal instructions
What is Weather Discover?
Weather Discover is a browser hijacker which promotes hweatherdiscover.com (the address of a fake search engine) by changing certain browser settings. It might also be designed to gather various data. Note that most users do not download or install these apps intentionally and, therefore, browser hijackers are categorized as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs). Weather Discover is distributed with another PUA called Hide My History.
Like most apps of this type, Weather Discover alters settings such as the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab. In this case, it assigns them to hweatherdiscover.com. The main purpose of this app is to force users to visit hweatherdiscover.com when they open a browser, new tab, or enter search queries into the URL bar. This fake search engine is useless, since it does not generate unique results - it simply redirects users to search.yahoo.com (and displays results generated by Yahoo, a legitimate search engine). Typically, browser hijackers prevent users from removing the fake search engine URLs, unless they are uninstalled. If you have a browser hijacked by Weather Discover, hweatherdiscover.com can only be removed from the aforementioned settings after it is uninstalled. Browser hijackers also collect information relating to users' browsing activities. In most cases, they target details such as IP addresses, entered search queries, addresses of visited pages, geolocations, and other browsing data. In some cases, they can record sensitive information as well. The people behind the apps (the developers) can misuse the data to generate revenue by selling it to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals), or in other ways. Installed browser hijackers can be the reason behind problems relating to online privacy, browsing safety, and other problems. It is possible that some users may even become victims of identity theft. Therefore, never trust or install apps such as Weather Discover, Hide My History (or other browser hijackers).

Some more examples of apps that are classified as browser hijackers are Charming Tab, IncognitoNow and My Learning Buddy. Typically, they are designed only to help the developers to generate revenue by promoting dubious web pages/fake search engines and gathering browsing data. Therefore, these apps are useless and do not operate as advertised. If an app of this type is already installed on the browser and/or computer, remove it immediately.
How did Weather Discover install on my computer?
Typically, users download and install browser hijackers (and other PUAs) together with other programs. More precisely, when they are included into the download/installation set-ups as 'additional offers'. This distribution method is known as "bundling" and works when users fail to check and change settings that are available in the set-ups. Offers to download and install PUAs can often be declined in "Custom", "Advanced", "Manual" and other settings of the set-ups. Unwanted downloads and installations are also caused by clicking deceptive ads that execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Software should not be downloaded or installed through third party downloaders/installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., eMule, torrent clients), from unofficial pages, and so on. These channels/sources can be used to distribute unwanted, potentially malicious apps. You are advised to download only from official websites and direct download links. Check all "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings and decline offers to download or install unwanted software. Do not click intrusive ads that are displayed on dubious web pages, since they can open potentially untrusted sites or even download and install unwanted apps. Remove any suspicious, unwanted extensions, plug-ins and add-ons installed on the browser, and programs of this kind installed on the computer. If your computer is already infected with Weather Discover, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
