How to uninstall LogarithmicRecord adware

Also Known As: Ads by LogarithmicRecord
Type: Mac Virus
Damage level: Medium

What is LogarithmicRecord?

LogarithmicRecord is an adware-type application with browser hijacker traits. This app runs intrusive advertisement campaigns and makes alterations to browser settings to promote a fake search engine. Additionally, most adware type apps and browser hijackers collect browsing-related information.

Due to the dubious methods used to proliferate LogarithmicRecord, it is classified as a Potentially Unwanted Application (PUA).

LogarithmicRecord adware

Adware delivers pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys and other intrusive ads. These significantly diminish the browsing experience, since they overlay web page content and limit browsing activity.

Furthermore, when clicked, intrusive advertisements redirect to various untrusted/malicious websites and some can even execute scripts to stealthily download/install rogue software (e.g. PUAs). Browser hijackers reassign the homepage, default search engine and new tab/window URLs to the addresses of fake search engines.

Therefore, with this software installed, each new browser tab/window opened and search made via the URL bar redirects to the promoted address. Fake search engines are rarely able to generate unique results, and so they redirect (or cause redirection chains leading) to Google, Yahoo, Bing and other legitimate sites.

Browser hijackers can also restrict/deny access to the browser settings and/or undo any permitted changes made. As mentioned, most PUAs (e.g. adware and browser hijackers included) have data tracking capabilities.

They can monitor browsing activity (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and gather personal information extracted from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). The collected data is typically shared with and/or sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals).

Therefore, the presence of unwanted software on devices can lead to system infections, financial loss, serious privacy issues and even identity theft. To ensure device integrity and user safety, it is crucial to remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.

AdjustableViewFieldIndexer, PublicBoardSearch and OperativeDevice are some examples of other adware-type apps. They may seem legitimate and useful, and users are enticed into download/installation with offers of a wide variety of capabilities, however, the features seldom work as promised and, in most cases, do not work at all.

In fact, this applies to most PUAs. The only purpose of this unwanted software is to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than delivering any real value, PUAs run intrusive ad campaigns, modify browser settings, cause redirects and collect private data.

How did LogarithmicRecord install on my computer?

PUAs are distributed via the download/installation set-ups of other products. This deceptive marketing technique of packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions is called "bundling". Rushing download/installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps and sections, etc.) increases the risk of unintentionally allowing bundled content into the system.

Some PUAs have "official" promotional web pages, from which they can be downloaded. Intrusive advertisements proliferate these apps as well. Once clicked, they can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without users' permission.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

You are strongly advised to research all software before download/installation and/or purchase. Use only official and verified download channels, since untrusted sources such as unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks and other third party downloaders commonly offer deceptive and/or bundled content.

When downloading/installing, it is important to read the terms, explore all possible options, use the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings and opt-out of supplementary apps, tools, features, etc. Intrusive ads may seem legitimate, however, they can redirect to various dubious and harmful sites (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, and so on).

If you encounter these ads or redirects, inspect the system and remove all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately. If your computer is already infected with LogarithmicRecord, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
