How to remove LogarithmicRecord adware from Mac?
What is LogarithmicRecord?
LogarithmicRecord is an adware-type application with browser hijacker traits. This app runs intrusive advertisement campaigns, makes alterations to browser settings - in order to promote a fake search engine. Additionally, most adware-types and browser hijackers collect browsing-related information. Due to the dubious methods used to distribute LogarithmicRecord, it is deemed to be a PUA (Potentially Unwanted Application).
Adware delivers pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys and other intrusive adverts. These ads seriously diminish the browsing experience, since they overlay page content and limit the browsing activity. Furthermore, upon being clicked, intrusive advertisements redirect to various untrustworthy/malicious websites and some can even execute scripts to stealthily download/install software (e.g. PUAs). Browser hijackers reassign browsers' homepage, default search engine and new tab/window URLs - to the addresses of fake web searchers. Hence, with such a piece of software installed: every new browser tab/window opened and web search done via the URL bar - redirect to the promoted address. Fake search engines are rarely able to generate search results, so they redirect (or cause redirection chains leading) to Google, Yahoo, Bing and other legitimate ones. Browser hijackers can also restrict/deny access to the browser's settings and/or undo any permitted changes made. As mentioned in the introduction, most PUAs (e.g. adware and browser hijackers included) have data tracking abilities. They can monitor browsing activity (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and gather personal information extracted from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). The collected data is typically shared with and/or sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals). Therefore, presence of unwanted software on devices can lead to system infections, financial losses, severe privacy issues and even identity theft. To ensure device integrity and user safety, it is crucial to remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins must be removed without delay.

AdjustableView, FieldIndexer, PublicBoardSearch and OperativeDevice are some examples of other adware-type apps. They appear legitimate and useful. Users are enticed into download/installation with offers of a wide variety of abilities. However, the features seldom work as promised and in most cases - they do not work at all. In fact, this applies to practically all PUAs. Functionality and user safety are irrelevant, since the only purpose of unwanted software is to generate revenue for the developers. Therefore, instead of delivering on any promises, PUAs run intrusive advert campaigns, modify browser settings, cause redirects and collect private data.
How did LogarithmicRecord install on my computer?
PUAs are distributed via download/installation setups of other products. This false marketing technique of packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions - is called "bundling". Rushed download/installation processes (e.g. ignored terms, skipped steps and sections, etc.) - increase the risk of unintentionally allowing bundled content into the system. Select PUAs have "official" promotional webpages, from which they can be downloaded. Intrusive advertisements proliferate these apps as well. Once clicked on, they can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without user permission.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is highly recommended to research software before download/installation and/or purchase. Only official and verified download channels must be used. Since the untrustworthy sources, e.g. unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks and other third party downloaders - commonly offer deceptive and/or bundled content. When downloading/installing, it is important to read terms, explore all possible options, use the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings and opt-out from supplementary apps, tools, features, etc. Intrusive ads appear legitimate, however they redirect to various unreliable and harmful sites (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, and so on). In case of encounters with such adverts and/or redirects of this kind, the system must be inspected and all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins - immediately removed from it. If your computer is already infected with LogarithmicRecord, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
