Giphy Search redirect removal instructions
What is Giphy Search?
Giphy Search is advertised as a search engine for GIF images, however, this app is classified as adware and a browser hijacker: it serves advertisements, collects information relating to users' browsing activities, and changes certain browser settings to giphy-search.best. Commonly, users download and install adware unintentionally and, for this reason, Giphy Search is categorized as a potentially unwanted application (PUA).
Generally, apps that are classified as adware serve coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and other types of ads. If clicked, these can open dubious websites or even cause unwanted download/installation of unwanted apps by executing certain scripts. Giphy Search also promotes giphy-search.best (a fake search engine) by changing certain browser settings. Typically, apps of this type change settings such as the address of the homepage, default search engine and homepage. These search engines are fake, since most do not generate any unique results. When used, they simply provide results generated by other, legitimate search engines (such as Yahoo, Google, and Bing). Note that fake search engines can sometimes generate results that include links to other dubious websites. People who have apps such as Giphy Search installed on browsers and/or computers can only remove the bogus address when the hijacker is no longer installed. Giphy Search and similar apps often collect browsing-related data. For example, IP addresses, addresses of visited sites, entered search queries, and geolocations. They might also collect sensitive data. The information could be misused to generate revenue by selling it to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or in other ways. This can lead to problems relating to browsing safety and online privacy, and some users might even have their identities stolen.

PopBlock+, WebNavigatorBrowser and The Rocket Arcade are some of examples of other apps that are also classified as adware. Generally, these PUAs are useless and perform actions only to allow the developers to generate revenue in various ways. If Giphy Search or other apps of this type are already installed on the browser and/or operating system, uninstall them immediately.
How did adware install on my computer?
Browser hijackers, adware-type apps, and other types of PUAs are commonly distributed by integrating them into the download and/or installation set-ups of other programs, so that a proportion of users inadvertently download and install them together with their chosen software. This distribution method is known as "bundling". Offers to download and install additionally-included apps usually appear in "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings of the set-ups (where they can usually be declined). Many users fail to check and change these settings, thereby granting permission for PUAs to be downloaded and installed by default. In addition, unwanted downloads and installations are sometimes caused by clicking deceptive advertisements capable of executing certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Download software and files from official websites and via direct links. It is not safe to use torrent clients, eMule (or other Peer-to-Peer networks), third party downloaders, unofficial websites or other sources of this kind. Avoid third party installers. Check "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings, and decline offers to download or install unwanted software. Do not click ads that are displayed on dubious websites, since they can open other untrusted websites or even cause unwanted downloads and installations. Remove any unwanted, suspicious applications (extensions, add-ons, and plug-ins) that are installed on the browser. The same should be applied to programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Malwarebytes for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
