What is SearchMusicStream?
SearchMusicStream is classified as a browser hijacker. After installation it changes certain browser settings to searchmusicstream.com, the address of a fake search engine. Most apps of this type collect data (usually, browsing-related details).
Note that many users download and install apps such as SearchMusicStream (browser hijackers) unintentionally and, therefore, they are classified as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
Usually, PUAs such as SearchMusicStream hijack browsers by changing the default search engine, homepage, and new tab to the address of a fake search engine (in this case, searchmusicstream.com). Therefore, users are forced to visit this address when they open a browser, new tab, or enter search queries into the URL bar.
Users can undo the changes made by browser hijackers only after uninstalling the rogue apps from browsers and operating systems. In this case, searchmusicstream.com can be removed from the settings of hijacked browsers once the SearchMusicStream app is no longer installed.
The address promoted by SearchMusicStream is a fake search engine, since it shows results generated by Yahoo or a dubious search engine. More precisely, searchmusicstream.com redirects users to search.yahoo.com, or searchlee.com.
Fake search engines often generate their own results, which can include links to other potentially malicious pages and deceptive advertisements. Therefore, you are strongly advised to use Google, Yahoo, Bing or other trusted search engines to browse the web.
Browser hijackers also collect various user-system information. Commonly, apps of this type target browsing-related details such as IP addresses, geolocations, visited websites, entered search queries, etc., however, some browser hijackers can access personal information (e.g., passwords, credit card details).
Furthermore, the developers can monetize gathered information by selling it to third parties (potentially cyber criminals) and using it for marketing purposes (or in other ways).
Therefore, installed browser hijackers can cause problems with browsing safety and privacy. Users might become victims of identity theft and encounter other issues. If SearchMusicStream or other apps of this type are installed, remove them immediately.

SearchConverterIt, Show Tabs, and FlashSearch are examples of other browser hijackers. There are many more on the web. In most cases, these apps modify the browser settings to promote fake search engines.
These apps can also gather browsing data and other information.
Browser hijackers do not have any 'useful features' and can cause serious problems. As mentioned, most users download and install apps such as SearchMusicStream inadvertently.
How did SearchMusicStream install on my computer?
Browser hijackers, adware-type apps, and other types of PUAs are commonly distributed by integrating them into the download and/or installation set-ups of other programs, so that a proportion of users inadvertently download and install them together with their chosen software. This distribution method is known as "bundling".
Offers to download and install additionally-included apps usually appear in "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings of the set-ups (where they can usually be declined). Many users fail to check and change these settings, thereby granting permission for PUAs to be downloaded and installed by default.
In addition, unwanted downloads and installations are sometimes caused by clicking deceptive advertisements capable of executing certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised to download files and programs from official websites and via direct download links. Other tools and sources such as third party downloaders and installers, unofficial pages, and Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., eMule, torrent clients) should not be used to download or install software.
Check all "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings (or available checkboxes) for offers to download and/or install unwanted apps. Do not click ads on dubious websites, since they can be designed to open bogus web pages or cause unwanted downloads and installations.
Remove any unwanted, suspicious extensions, plug-ins and add-ons installed on the browser, and software of this kind from the operating system.
If your computer is already infected with SearchMusicStream, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
