What is SearchConvertersWeb?
SearchConvertersWeb is a piece of software classified as a browser hijacker. It operates by making changes to browser settings - in order to promote (by causing redirects to) the searchconvertersweb.com fake search engine.
Furthermore, software within this classification gathers browsing-related information. Due to the questionable techniques used to distribute browser hijackers, they are also categorized as PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications).
Browser hijackers primarily target popular browsers with large user bases. This software assigns fake web searcher addresses as browsers' homepage, default search engine, and new tab/window URLs.
SearchConvertersWeb also makes these modifications to browsers. Therefore, with this browser hijacker installed: new browser tabs/windows opened and search queries typed into the URL bar - redirect to searchconvertersweb.com.
Fake search engines are rarely able to provide search results, so they redirect to (or cause redirection chains ending with) Google, Yahoo, Bing, and other legitimate ones. This applies to the searchconvertersweb.com web searcher as well. It has been observed redirecting to the Google (google.com) search engine; however, searchconvertersweb.com may redirect elsewhere.
Browser hijackers can undo any changes users try to make to their browsers. Alternatively, they can restrict or deny access to the browser settings.
Hence, recovering a hijacked browser is impossible without removing the software affecting it. What is more, browser hijackers usually have data tracking abilities, and SearchConvertersWeb likely also has such functionalities.
Information of interest includes (but is not limited to): URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, IP addresses/ geolocations, and personally identifiable details. Browser hijacker developers monetize the collected data by sharing it with and/or selling it to third-parties (potentially, cyber criminals).
In summary, the presence of data-tracking software on devices can lead to severe privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft. To ensure device integrity and user privacy, all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins must be eliminated immediately upon detection.

To eliminate possible malware infections, scan your computer with legitimate antivirus software. Our security researchers recommend using Combo Cleaner.
Set Colors, Food Tab, MovieSearchZilla, Music Search for Chrome, and Job Search are some examples of browser hijackers. They seldom appear suspect, this software tends to look legitimate and innocuous.
Users are enticed into download/installation with a wide variety of "useful" features. However, the functions are typically nonoperational.
This is true of practically all PUAs. The sole goal of unwanted apps is to generate profit at user expense.
Therefore, instead of delivering on any promises, PUAs can modify browsers, force-open untrustworthy and malicious sites, run intrusive advertisement campaigns (adware), and collecting private and vulnerable data.
How did SearchConvertersWeb install on my computer?
PUAs are spread via download/installation setups of other products. This deceptive marketing tactic of packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions - is called "bundling".
By rushing through download/installation processes (e.g., skipping steps and sections, using pre-set options, etc.) - users risk unintentionally allowing bundled content into their devices. Intrusive advertisements are also used to proliferate PUAs.
Once clicked on, the ads can execute scripts to download/install these applications without user permission. PUAs may also have "official" promotional/download pages.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is important to research software products before download/installation and/or purchase. Furthermore, all downloads must be performed from official and trustworthy sources.
Since dubious download channels, e.g., unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, and other third-party downloaders - commonly offer bundled, unreliable, and even malicious content. Download and installation processes have to be treated with care.
Hence, it is important to read terms, explore possible options, use the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings, and decline downloading/installing supplementary apps, tools, features, and other additions. Intrusive adverts appear ordinary and harmless; however, they redirect to highly questionable sites (e.g., gambling, adult-dating, pornography, etc.).
Should users experience such advertisements and/or redirects, they must check their devices and immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected. If your computer is already infected with SearchConvertersWeb, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
