Online scams in general

"SHIBA (SHIB) Giveaway", "Dogelon Mars (ELON) giveaway", "Ethereum Giveaway", and "SAFEMOON Giveaway" are some examples of scams similar to "SOLANA (SOL) Giveaway".

Aside from hoax giveaways, popular scam models include: fake lotteries and raffles, ludicrous deals, warnings that the system is infected, alerts that a piece of software is outdated, and so on. The Internet is rife with misleading, deceptive, and malicious content. Therefore, it is highly recommended to exercise caution when browsing.

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?

Select PUAs have "official" download webpages that are often pushed by deceptive/scam sites. Intrusive advertisements are also used to proliferate these applications. Upon being clicked, the ads can execute scripts to make stealthy downloads/installations.

PUAs are mainly distributed using the "bundling" marketing method - packing regular products with unwanted/malicious additions. Hence, rushed download/installation processes (e.g., skipped steps and sections, etc.) increase the risk of allowing bundled content into the system.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

It is recommended to always research software and download it from official/verified channels. Dubious sources, e.g., unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, etc. - offer bundled and harmful content.

When downloading/installing, it is advised to read terms, explore available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings to opt-out from all supplements. Intrusive advertisements appear legitimate; however, they redirect to highly questionable sites (e.g., gambling, pornography, adult-dating, and so on).

In case of encounters with such adverts and/or redirects, the system must be checked and all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected - immediately removed from it. If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
