How to remove the SuccessAdvanced adware from your operating system?

Also Known As: Ads by SuccessAdvanced
Type: Mac Virus
Damage level: Medium

What is SuccessAdvanced?

SuccessAdvanced is a rogue application classified as adware. It also has browser hijacker qualities. What is more, since most users download/install apps of this type inadvertently, they are categorized as PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications) as well.

SuccessAdvanced adware

SuccessAdvanced adware in detail

Adware enables the placement of third-party graphical content (e.g., pop-ups, banners, coupons, etc.) on any visited website and/or different interfaces. The delivered adverts seriously diminish the browsing experience, and even endanger device/user safety.

Intrusive advertisements redirect to various unreliable, deceptive/scam, and malicious sites. Furthermore, some of these ads can download/install software (e.g., PUAs) without user permission - when they are clicked on.

Browser hijackers assign fraudulent web searcher addresses as browsers' default search engine, new tab/window, and homepage URLs. Therefore, new browser tabs/windows opened and search queries typed into the URL bar - redirect to the promoted address.

Fake search engines usually cannot generate search results, so they redirect to Yahoo, Google, Bing, and other genuine ones. Browser hijackers also use persistence-ensuring techniques.

Most PUAs (adware and browser hijackers included) have data tracking abilities. Information of interest includes: browsing and search engine histories, IP addresses, personally identifiable details, etc. The collected data is then shared with and/or sold to third-parties.

In summary, the presence of unwanted apps on devices can result in system infections, severe privacy issues, financial losses, and identity theft.

Adware in general

SmartDivisionFunctionServer, ExecutiveProduct, and PortalFlow are some examples of adware. Like most PUAs, this software appears legitimate and offers "handy" functionalities that are typically nonoperational. Unwanted apps can have harmful abilities, e.g., running intrusive advert campaigns, hijacking browsers, force-opening suspicious and dangerous websites, and collecting private data.

How did SuccessAdvanced install on my computer?

PUAs are spread using the "bundling" marketing tactic - packing regular programs with various additions. Rushed download/installation processes (e.g., skipped steps, etc.) increase the risk of allowing bundled content into the device. Intrusive advertisements proliferate PUAs as well. Once clicked on, the ads can execute scripts to make stealthy downloads/installations. Some PUAs may also have "official" promotional/download sites.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

It is recommended to research software and download only from official/verified sources. Untrustworthy download channels, e.g., unofficial and freeware websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, etc. - often offer bundled content.

When downloading/installing, it is advised to read terms, study possible options, and use the "Custom/Advanced" settings to opt-out from all supplements. Intrusive advertisements appear legitimate; however, they redirect to questionable websites (e.g., gambling, pornography, adult-dating, etc.).

In case of encounters with such adverts and/or redirects, the device must be checked and all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected - immediately removed from it. If your computer is already infected with SuccessAdvanced, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
