DictAddon virus removal instructions
What is DictAddon?
The DictAddon browser plugin (created by thedictadon.com, LLC) promises to allow looking up of word-meanings to be more productive. Whilst such functionality may seem legitimate, users should be aware that this browser extension is categorized as adware or a potentially unwanted application. DictAddon installs on users' Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) without their consent and generates intrusive banner and pop-up ads. Moreover, this add-on tracks browsing activity by recording IP addresses, web pages visited, and search terms entered.
Having this plugin installed on your Internet browser can lead to malware infections and privacy issues. Developers of this plugin use a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling', and thus, DictAddon is often installed together with free software. Computer users should be aware that, today, most freeware download websites use 'download clients' - small programs that offer installation of advertised browser extensions together with the chosen free program. Not paying close enough attention when downloading and installing free software can result in installation of DictAddon or other adware infections.
DictAddon is similar to other potentially unwanted applications distributed using free software downloads, including BetterMarkit, Lyrics, and Linkey. While this browser extension may seem legitimate, it adds no significant value to Internet browsing, and moreover, diminishes browser performance and generates intrusive ads. To avoid installation of this adware, users should be attentive when downloading and installing free software. If your download is managed by a download client, opt-out of installation of advertised browser plug-ins by clicking the 'decline' button. When installing free software, use the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options - this will reveal any intended installation of bundled software. If you have already installed DictAddon, use this removal instruction to eliminate it from your Internet browser/s.
