BlockAndSurf Ads

Also Known As: Block-N-Surf virus
Type: Adware
Damage level: Medium

What is BlockAndSurf?

Created by Revizer Technologies Ltd, the Block and Surf (Block-N-Surf) browser add-on claims to hold a database of many black list domains, which potentially keeps children safe on the web by preventing viewing of adult content websites.

The software is developed to work with Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, and while its initiative to protect children is valid, this application has some downsides.

For example, it displays unwanted online ads including banners, “pop-ups”, “pop-unders", sponsored links, coupons, deals, shopping comparison, content suggestions, and other online advertisements, which computer users may find difficult to remove.

Another downside of the BlockAndSurf app is that it tracks users' Internet browsing activity by recording IP addresses, MAC addresses, hardware information, geolocations, default search providers, web pages visited, and other information.

This information can be personally identifiable, and therefore, the presence of this add-on on your system may lead to serious privacy issues and identity theft. Users wishing to protect children online should opt for trusted antivirus and anti-spyware programs (with parental controls).

Inadvertent applications installation can occur when users install free software downloaded from the Internet. BlockAndSurf is ad-supported and may be bundled with free software for monetization purposes.

To avoid installation of unwanted browser toolbars and add-ons (which may lead to redirects and unwanted ad issues), install free software with caution - check each installation window carefully, opting out of any browser add-ons and disallowing changes to the browser homepage and default search engine settings.

Although BlockAndSurf is not directly linked to malware or virus infections, having this browser add-on installed on your computer is not recommended since it displays unwanted advertising and diminishes Internet browsing performance. If you care about computer safety, opt for applications developed by reputable security companies.

Most potentially unwanted applications are distributed via small programs called 'download clients' within freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, softonic.com, and many others.

Download clients are used to monetize the free services provided by these websites by offering installation of promoted browser extensions together with the chosen free software. Therefore, careless download and installation of freeware commonly results in adware or malware infections.

This situation can be prevented by closely observing each step during the download of free software and never accepting installation of any additional applications offered.

If you are installing downloaded software, select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Regular' - this will reveal any bundled applications attempting stealth installation, and you will be able to decline them.

Users who have installed BlockAndSurf and observe unwanted online advertisements when browsing the Internet (Ads by BlockAndSurf), should follow this removal guide to eliminate this adware from their computers.

The BlockAndSurf potentially unwanted application generates ads from the following sources: Dealply, Superfish, Jollywallet, Text Enhance, GetDeal, Daily Offer Service, IRobinhood, PriceSparrow, and CouponBuddy.
