Savings Plugin removal instructions
What is Savings Plugin?
Created by Engaging Apps, Savings Plugin is a rogue browser extension compatible with Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome. The developers of this potentially unwanted application employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' to stealthily install on Internet browsers without users' permission. For this reason, most users infect their computers with Savings Plugin when downloading free software via small programs called 'download managers' on freeware download websites (for example, download.com, soft32.com, and softonic.com). Savings Plugin claims to save time and money by enabling coupons, comparison shopping, and displaying discounts/special deals available within online stores, and although this functionality may look useful and legitimate, be aware that Savings Plugin is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) or adware. Following successful infiltration on Internet browsers, Savings Plugin tracks users' Internet browsing activity and generates intrusive online advertisements.
These intrusive advertisements include banner, coupon, interstitial, sponsored link, pop-up ads, and offers to download other PUPs also considered to be adware. Clicking advertisements generated by this rogue browser add-on is likely to cause high-risk adware or malware infections. Furthermore, Savings Plugin continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity by recording various information that may be personally identifiable. For example: Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, unique identifier numbers, geographic locations, operating systems and browser types, default search engines, search terms entered, URLs visited, pages viewed, and other details. There are many potentially unwanted programs similar to Savings Plugin including Coupon-Locker, SavingsShip, and StartSavin. Neither Savings Plugin, nor any of these other browser add-ons, provide any real value for the user - their purpose is to generate income by the display of intrusive online advertisements. The behavior of these browser extensions may lead to serious privacy issues or identity theft, and therefore, you are strongly advised to uninstall Savings Plugin from your Internet browsers.
Another adware using Savings Plugin name:
At time of research, Savings Plugin was distributed via fake downloads (Java updates, browser updates, etc.) as well as other potentially unwanted programs such as BlockAndSurf, Shieldren, and BlockIt. Despite this, most users infect their computers during download of free software via small programs called 'download managers' on freeware download websites. Download managers are used to monetize these websites' free services by offering installation of advertised (according to Engaging Apps, '100% virus-free') browser add-ons together with the chosen free software. Thus, careless download and installation of freeware risks computer infection with adware or malware. Installation of adware such as Savings Plugin can be prevented by paying close attention when downloading free software and clicking 'Decline' if installation of any additional programs is offered. If you have installed downloaded software, select the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any hidden applications listed for installation and allow them to be declined. If you have already installed Savings Plugin, and observe intrusive online advertisements while surfing the Internet, read the following removal guide and eliminate it from your Internet browsers.
