What is SnipSmart?
Developed by SuperWeb LLC, SnipSmart is a rogue browser add-on claiming to improve the quality of users' Internet browsing experience by enabling comparison shopping, coupons, and other functions.
Although this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, be aware that SnipSmart is considered to be adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP) since it employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional applications together with the chosen software) to install on Internet browsers without users' consent.
Following successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome, SnipSmart generates intrusive online advertisements and tracks users' Internet browser activity.
These intrusive advertisements include interstitial, transitional, full-page, banner, text-link, and search ads. There is a high probability that clicking these advertisements will cause high-risk adware or malware infections.
Furthermore, SnipSmart continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity by recording various software and hardware information that is likely to be personally identifiable. For example: Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, unique identifier numbers, search queries entered, URLs visited, pages viewed, and other details.
SuperWeb LLC has released several hundred potentially unwanted programs identical to SnipSmart. Examples include KingThink, SunRiseBrowse, and SmarterPower. Neither SnipSmart, nor any of these other PUPs, add any real value for the user.
The developers of SnipSmart intentionally release identical browser extensions under different names to avoid detection by legitimate anti-spyware and anti-virus software. The purpose of these add-ons is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online ads.
This behavior may lead to serious privacy issues or identity theft, and for this reason, you are strongly advised to eliminate SnipSmart from your Internet browsers.
Close examination of SnipSmart reveals that it is mostly distributed via small programs called 'download managers' on freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, softonic.com, and many others.
Download managers are used to monetize these websites' free services by offering installation of promoted 'legitimate' browser plug-ins together with the chosen free software. Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
This situation can be prevented by closely inspecting each step of the free software download procedure and never accepting installation of any additional applications offered.
Furthermore, all software downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any hidden applications listed for installation and allow you to decline them. If you have installed SnipSmart, follow the removal guide below to uninstall this adware from your Internet browsers.
