What is Ziftr?
Developed by myVBO LLC, Ziftr is a browser extension claiming to help users to find the best deals and discounts when shopping online. Although this extension may appear to be a useful money saving tool, Ziftr is categorized as a potentially unwanted application.
This rogue add-on uses a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' to infiltrate Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox). Bundling is a way to distribute applications together with other software, and therefore, these installations often occur when users do not pay enough attention when downloading free software.
After successful infiltration, Ziftr generates intrusive online advertisements (banner, redirect, coupon, etc.) that may lead to bogus websites containing potentially harmful content.
Ziftr is also known to track various software and hardware information such as IP addresses, search queries, visited websites, pages viewed, and other similar data. This information may be personally identifiable and lead to serious privacy issues. There are many rogue applications similar to Ziftr, none of which provide any significant value for the user.
My Savings, ConvertAd, BestPricesApp, and Eppink are just some examples among many others. Ziftr (and other similar adware) is developed to generate revenue by the display of ads and sharing collected data with third parties. Therefore, this application should be eliminated from your system immediately.
Today, most popular freeware download websites such as download.com, softonic.com, soft32.com, etc. use small download programs to monetize their free services and traffic by offering installation of promoted applications together with the chosen free software.
These applications are presented as '100% legitimate and virus-free', however, reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections. To avoid Ziftr, or other adware installations, inspect each step of the free software download procedure and click 'Decline' if installation of other applications is offered.
Furthermore, installation of downloaded programs should be performed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' options, rather than 'Typical' or 'Quick' - this will reveal any concealed applications listed for installation and allow you to uncheck them. The following instructions will guide you through Ziftr adware removal.
