What is Gravity Space?
Developed by SuperWeb LLC, Gravity Space is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) claiming to improve the Internet browsing experience by enabling coupons and comparison shopping
- "We're passionate about improving web by providing the best tools to enhance the browsing experience, from searching the web to comparing online deals to find the best prices. We've combined all of our great ideas into the Gravity Space product suite, a FREE set of tools that work to make your browsing experience... better!"
Some users may find this application legitimate and useful, however, it is categorized as adware. There are a number of reasons for these negative associations. Firstly, Gravity Space infiltrates systems without users' permission. Secondly, it displays intrusive online advertisements and tracks Internet browsing activity.
Gravity Space displays interstitial, transitional, banner, full-page, coupon, search, and other similar ads. To achieve this, the app uses a virtual layer allowing placement of various third party graphical content on any website visited.
These ads diminish the Internet browsing experience by concealing the underlying content and might cause further computer infections, since some of them redirect to untrusted sites. In addition, users' Internet browsing activity is continually monitored.
Gravity Space collects information such as IP addresses (to determine geolocations), websites visited, Internet search queries, pages viewed, and so on. This collected information may contain personally identifiable information that is later shared with third parties.
Therefore, having Gravity Space installed on your computer can result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft. For these reasons, you are strongly advised to uninstall this PUP.
The developers of this application have released several hundred identical applications including Gravity Space. SuperWeb LLC releases identical browser plug-ins (for example, Swift Record, Computer Chair, Jump Flip, and Record Page) under different names to trick anti-spyware and anti-virus suites and prevent detection.
The apps offer identical features, however, neither Gravity Space, nor any other applications developed by SuperWeb LLC, provide the features promised. These applications are designed to generate revenue by delivering intrusive online ads and gathering personally identifiable information. They provide no real value for users.
How did Gravity Space install on my computer?
As with other adware developed by SuperWeb LLC, Gravity Space is distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of third party apps with regular software. Many users do not pay close enough attention and rush the download/installation processes.
Commonly, rogue applications are concealed within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings, and therefore, by skipping some/all of the download/installation steps, users inadvertently install PUPs such as Gravity Space.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Installation of bogus applications can be avoided by taking two simple steps. Firstly, software should be downloaded with caution - follow each step of the procedure and decline all offers to install third party apps. Furthermore, choose the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and enable you to opt-out.
