Pro PC Cleaner Unwanted Application

Also Known As: Pro PC Cleaner potentially unwanted program
Damage level: Medium

What is Pro PC Cleaner?

The Pro PC Cleaner application supposedly provides various computer performance-improving functions - "Pro PC Cleaner identifies and fixes registry issues, corrupted files, memory problems, startup lags, and system issues."

On initial inspection, Pro PC Cleaner may seem a regular application, however, this app often infiltrates systems without users’ permission. Therefore, it is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP).

Pro PC Cleaner adware

Potentially unwanted programs are likely to track Internet browsing activity and generate intrusive online advertisements. The types of collected data often include IP addresses, geo-location, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other similar browsing-related information.

Some of the data will contain personal details that the developers of PUPs share with third parties, who are likely to misuse it to generate revenue. This behavior can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Advertisements generated by potentially unwanted programs do not originate from users' visited websites.

They conceal underlying web content, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience. In addition, some lead to malicious websites - clicking them risks further adware or malware infections.

Note that PC Cleaner Pro is a legitimate application that poses no threat to users' privacy, however, it often infiltrates systems without users’ consent, uses system resources, and continually interrupt users with various notifications, thereby diminishing computer use generally. If you feel that this PUP has been installed without your permission, you should uninstall it immediately.

Potentially unwanted programs are designed to generate revenue for the developers. They falsely claim to enhance the Internet browsing experience or provide other 'valuable' features simply to trick users to install.

After infiltrating the system, YTDownloader, Royal Raid, and other similar applications, track Internet browsing activity and display intrusive online advertisements. They provide no significant value for users.

How did Pro PC Cleaner install on my computer?

Applications such as Pro PC Cleaner are often distributed as 'bundles' with other software. Developers hide potentially unwanted programs within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings, since they are aware that most users skip this section.

By rushing the download and installation processes, users often install PUPs such as Pro PC Cleaner inadvertently. Developers' revenue is dependent on the number of distributed PUPs and, therefore, there is no reason for them to disclose these installations.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

This situation can be prevented by taking two simple step. Firstly, each step of the software download and installation processes should be closely analyzed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Secondly, all offers to download or install additionally-included software should be declined - third party apps are likely to be bogus and, thus, should never be installed.
