NextFlix removal instructions
What is NextFlix?
NextFlix is a dubious application that claims to provide a DNS service, thereby helping users to reach various websites (such as Netflix, Spotify, CBS, etc.) that are unavailable in their country - "Using our DNS service, you can access U.S. restricted content." This is a third party app and unrelated to legitimate sites such as Netflix and others (to which NextFlix supposedly provides access). On initial inspection, NextFlix may seem legitimate and useful, however, it is classed as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware. There are three main reasons for these negative associations: stealth infiltration without users' consent, tracking of web browsing activity, and display of intrusive online ads.
NextFlix generates banner, pop-up, coupon, and other similar advertisements using a 'virtual layer' - a tool enabling placement of third party graphical content on any site. Many users are unaware that these ads do not originate from their visited websites. Therefore, by delivering advertisements that conceal the underlying content, NextFlix significantly diminishes the web browsing experience. In addition, displayed advertisements often redirect to dubious sites containing malicious content - clicking them can lead to further high-risk adware or malware infections. Furthermore, NextFlix gathers information such as Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries entered into search engines, and other similar data. This information is then shared with third parties who misuse private data to generate revenue. This behavior can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Therefore, you are strongly advised to uninstall NextFlix immediately.
NextFlix is identical to FirstFlix, DNS Unlocker, TopFlix, and AnyFlix. All offer identical functionality, however, none provide users with any real value. Adware-type applications such as NextFlix are designed only to generate revenue for the developers. These apps merely generate intrusive online advertisements (using the 'Pay Per Click’ [PPC] advertising model) and collect personally identifiable data (which is shared with third parties to generate revenue).
How did NextFlix install on my computer?
Although, NetFlix has an official download website, many victims install this PUP inadvertently due to a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of PUPs with regular software. The developers know that many users do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software. Aware of this, developers intentionally conceal PUPs within the 'Custom/Advanced' section of these processes. Users who skip this section, often install bogus programs inadvertently without their consent.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
There are two main steps you should take to prevent this situation. Firstly, never rush when downloading and installing software. Closely observe each step within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings. Secondly, opt-out of all additionally-included programs concealed within this section and never accept offer to download or install them.
