Rooster865qqZ ransomware removal instructions

What is Rooster865qqZ?

Rooster865qqZ belongs to the family of ransomware called Maoloa, the person who discovered this ransomware is Raby. It encrypts files and appends the ".Rooster865qqZ" extension to their filenames. For instance, it renames "1.jpg" to "1.jpg.Rooster865qqZ", and so on. Also, Rooster865qqZ displays a pop-up window, a ransom note that gets launched from the "HOW TO BACK YOUR FILES.exe" executable file.

Victims are informed that encrypted files can be recovered with a decryption tool. In order to get it, they have to send one image or text file to china.helper@aol.com and provide the appointed ID number. Rooster865qqZ's developers offer to decrypt that file for free and send it back together with a price of decryption of all files and instructions on how to pay it. Also, victims are warned not to try to decrypt files by themselves (using other tools) because it will damage data. Simply said, victims are informed that the only way to decrypt files is by using tools that can be provided only by developers of this ransomware. Unfortunately, there are no other (and free) tools that could decrypt files encrypted by Rooster865qqZ, at least not at the moment. Another problem is that ransomware developers cannot be trusted, quite often people who pay them a ransom get scammed. Simply said, they do not receive the promised decryption tools and/or keys. In most cases data and financial loss can be avoided only by restoring files from an existing backup. Besides, even if victims uninstall/remove ransomware from the operating system, their files remain encrypted. Uninstalling it from the operating system only prevents ransomware from causing further encryptions.

Rooster865qqZ decrypt instructions (HOW TO BACK YOUR FILES.exe)

Rooster865qqZ is quite similar to most programs of this type, some other examples are Gesd, MMDecrypt and Righ. It is designed to prevent victims from accessing data by encrypting it and keep it that way unless a ransom is paid. The main differences between these programs usually are the price of a decryption and cryptographic algorithm (symmetric or asymmetric) that is used to encrypt data. Typically, caused encryptions can be decrypted without tools that can be purchased from cyber criminals only if ransomware is not finished, contains bugs, flaws, etc. Unfortunately, that does not happen often. For this reason it is important to always have a backup of data created and keep it on some unplugged storage device, or remote server like Cloud.

How did ransomware infect my computer?

A few most commonly used ways to proliferate ransomware (and other malicious software) is to do it by using spam campaigns, Trojans, untrustworthy file software download sources/channels, software 'cracking' tools and fakel software updaters. Cyber criminals spread malware via spam campaigns by sending emails with malciious files attached to them. Their main goal is to trick recipients into opening the attached file. Quite often they attach files such as executable files, PDF documents, archives (like RAR, ZIP), Microsoft Office documents, JavaScript files, and so on. If opened, that file installs ransomware or other high-risk malware. Trojans are malicious programs that often are designed to cause chain infections. Simply said, if installed, they download and install other malicious programs. Peer-to-peer (P2P) networks, free file hosting websites, freeware download websites, unofficial pages, third party downloaders, and other software download sources of this kind can be used to distribute malware too. Cyber criminals upload malicious files that are disguised as legitimate, harmless and hope that someone will download, and open them. By opening files downloaded from such sources people risk to infect their computers by themselves. Programs ('cracking' tools) that supposed to bypass paid activations of licensed software often install malicious programs too. Fake software updating tools cause infect systems by installing malware instead of the updates or fixes, or by exploiting bugs, flaws of outdated software that is already installed on the operating system.

How to protect yourself from ransomware infections?

If an email is received from unknown, suspicious address, and it is irrelevant, then we strongly recommend to trust it. If it contains an attachment and/or website link, then it should not be opened. All files and programs should be downloaded from official, trustworthy websites and via direct links. Other sources like third party downloaders, questionable pages, Peer-to-Peer networks, and other similar tools should not be used to download any software. Installed software should be updated by using tools or implemented functions that are designed by official developers. The same applies to its activation, besides, it is not legal to use various software 'cracking' tools. To keep a computer safe it also recommend to regularly scan it with a reputable antivirus or anti-spyware software. If your computer is already infected with Rooster865qqZ, we recommend running a scan with Spyhunter for Windows to automatically eliminate this ransomware.
