ConverterSearchHD browser hijacker removal instructions
What is ConverterSearchHD?
ConverterSearchHD is a browser hijacker which changes certain browser settings to convertersearchhd.com/promotes a fake search engine. Like most apps of this type, it collect information related to user's browsing activity as well. More often than not users download and install browser hijackers like ConverterSearchHD inadvertently (unknowingly), for this reason such apps are called potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
ConverterSearchHD modifies settings such as address of a default search engine, homepage and new tab, it changes them to convertersearchhd.com. Therefore, users who have this app installed on a web browser end up on convertersearchhd.com when they enter search queries into URL bar, open a browser or new tab. When used as a search engine, convertersearchhd.com provides results generated by Yahoo, it redirects users to search.yahoo.com. In other words, convertersearchhd.com does not generate its own results and that is why it is fake. It is worthwhile to mention that address assigned by a browser hijacker cannot be removed from browser settings unless users uninstall that app. Although, it is not the only reason to uninstall any installed browser hijacker. It is common that apps of this type are designed to gather various browsing-related information. For example, IP addresses, addresses of visited pages, geolocations, entered search queries, and other data of this kind. However, there are browser hijackers that are capable of collecting sensitive details as well. Moreover, gathered information could be sold to third parties and/or misused to generate revenue in other ways. In such cases users may become victims of identity theft, experience problems related to online privacy, browsing safety, or other issues.

How did ConverterSearchHD install on my computer?
One of the most popular ways to distribute PUAs so that users would unknowingly download and/or install them is to include them in setups of other programs as additional offers. This distribution method is called "bundling". As a rule, included apps can be found in "Advanced", "Custom", or other settings of setups. PUAs get a permission to be downloaded and/or installed when users do not decline offers (do not change the aforementioned settings) while downloading and/or installing programs that have those apps included in their setups. In some cases such downloads, installations can be caused through deceptive advertisements, however, only by clicking ads that are designed to run certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Unwanted downloads and/or installations can be avoided by declining offers to download and/or install PUAs in "Advanced", "Custom", "Advanced" or other settings of setups. Also, it can be done by not clicking advertisements that appear on questionable websites. It is worthwhile to mention that such ads can be designed not only to cause downloads and/or installations of PUAs but also to promote untrustworthy websites. Additionally, download and/or installation of PUAs or even malicious apps can be avoided by downloading and/or installing files, programs only from official pages and via direct links. It is advised not to use other sources, tools like Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule), unofficial pages, third party downloaders, installers. If some unwanted, potentially malicious app (extension, add-on, plug-in) is already installed on a browser, then it should be removed. The same applies to software of this kind that is installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with ConverterSearchHD, we recommend running a scan with Malwarebytes for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
