How to remove Osx Uninstaller from Mac?

What is Osx Uninstaller?

Osx Uninstaller is a piece of untrustworthy software, it is endorsed as a tool to optimize and carry out effective application uninstallment processes. However, due to the dubious techniques used to distribute Osx Uninstaller, it is classified as a PUA (Potentially Unwanted Application). Software within this classification is typically nonoperational (i.e. the advertised features do not work) and it may also have unmentioned heinous abilities.

Osx Uninstaller unwanted application

While questionable distribution techniques are used for legitimate software, they are more commonly employed to spread dubious products. Some PUAs (e.g. fake anti-virus tools) require activation (i.e. purchase) to perform the promised functionalities, yet even after activation - they remain nonfunctional. Furthermore, unwanted applications can have hidden and harmful abilities. PUAs can force-open various unreliable and malicious websites. Adware-types run intrusive advertisement campaigns. The delivered ads (pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys, etc.) are more than just a nuisance, they are deemed to be dangerous as well. Since upon being clicked, intrusive advertisements redirect to untrustworthy/malicious sites and some can even stealthily download/install software. Browser hijacker PUAs operate by reassigning browsers' homepage, default search engine and new tab/window URLs - to the addresses of fake search engines. Hence, every new browser tab/window opened and web search done via the URL bar - redirect to the address of the promoted web searcher. Fake web searchers are usually unable to provide search results, so they redirect to Google, Yahoo, Bing and other genuine search engines. Browser hijackers can also restrict/deny access to the browsers' settings and/or undo any permitted changes made. What is more, most PUAs (regardless of their type / other functionalities) can track data. They can monitor browsing activity (visited URLs, viewed pages, searched queries, etc.) and collect personal information extracted from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). The gathered data is then shared with and/or sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals), likewise intent on misusing it for profit. In summary, presence of unwanted software on devices can result in system infections, severe privacy issues, financial losses and even identity theft. To protect device integrity and user safety, all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected - must be removed immediately upon detection.

Umate Mac CleanerMac Optimizer ProMacMaster and Quick Mac Booster are some examples of other potentially unwanted applications. They appear legitimate and offer a wide variety of "useful" and "advantageous" functionalities. However, despite how good the advertised features may sound - they are seldom operational. The only purpose of unwanted software is to generate revenue for the developers; hence, functionality and user safety are irrelevant. PUAs are designed to cause redirects, deliver intrusive advert campaigns, hijack browsers and collect private data.

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?

Select PUAs have "official" promotional webpages, from which they can be downloaded. These apps can also be downloaded/installed together with other software. This deceptive marketing tactic of packing regular products with unwanted or malicious additions - is called "bundling". Rushed downloads/installations (e.g. ignored terms, skipped steps and sections, used "Easy/Express" settings, etc.) increase the risk of inadvertently allowing bundled content into the system. Intrusive advertisements proliferate PUAs as well. Once clicked on, the ads can execute scripts to download/install such applications without user consent.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

It is important to research software products before download/installation and/or purchase. All downloads must be done from official and verified sources. Since dubious download channels, e.g. unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks and other third party downloaders - often offer deceptive and/or bundled content. When downloading/installing, it is recommended to read terms, explore all available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-put from additional apps, tools, features, etc. Intrusive adverts appear ordinary and harmless, however they redirect to various unreliable and questionable sites (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, and so on). In case of encounters with ads and/or redirects of this kind, the system must be inspected and all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected - removed from it without delay. If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
