There are many websites similar to peachlandcn[.]com on the web. Most display fake virus or other notifications stating that the device is infected (or that another problem exists) and suggests removal of viruses and protection of devices with potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), which can be downloaded via provided links.

In this way, websites such as peachlandcn[.]com promote applications using deceptive methods. These pages should be ignored and reported.

Currently, there are at least four variants of the peachlandcn[.]com web page that promote a VPN client.

Research shows that two of the known variants invite users to download a VPN client called Harbor VPN - Secure Connection. This application can be downloaded from Apple App Store and, therefore, it is likely that this app is legitimate. peachlandcn[.]com is similar to moderation-support[.]network, appleconnect.safellk[.]com, global-support[.]space, and many other deceptive pages. If these sites are opened by devices or browser regularly, it is likely that PUAs are installed. Typically, users download and install PUAs inadvertently.

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?

PUAs are distributed via download/installation set-ups of other products. This deceptive marketing tactic of packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions is called "bundling".

Rushing download/installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps and settings, etc.) increases the risk of inadvertently allowing bundled content into the system.

Some PUAs have "official" download sites. Intrusive advertisements proliferate these applications as well. Once clicked, they can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without users' consent.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
