Do not visit/use the arenabg.ch Torrent website

Also Known As: Ads by arenabg.ch
Type: Adware
Damage level: Medium

What is the arenabg[.]ch site?

Arenabg[.]ch is the address of a Peer-to-Peer sharing website. It offers users to download pirated software and media via Torrent files. Aside from infringing copyright laws, this site uses rogue advertising networks. Hence, visitors to websites that employ this monetization technique are redirected to various untrustworthy and malicious pages.

Furthermore, Torrent websites often offer PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications) and/or malware (e.g., trojans, ransomware, etc.) disguised as or packed together with ordinary content.

arenabg[.]ch pop-up redirects

Webpages that use rogue advertising networks promote dangerous sites by force-opening them. Alternatively, the redirects can be caused when content (e.g., ads, buttons, links, etc.) presented in the websites - is clicked on. It is typical of rogue pages to host intrusive advertisements, such as: pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys, full-page, and others.

These adverts pose a threat to device and user safety. Since upon being clicked, intrusive ads redirect to questionable/malicious sites and some can stealthily download/install software (e.g., PUAs). PUAs are commonly proliferated through intrusive advertisements and untrustworthy download channels (e.g., Torrent websites).

Unwanted applications appear legitimate and harmless. They offer various "useful" and "advantageous" features that are rarely operational. Fake anti-viruses are prime examples of this type; they require activation (i.e., purchase) to perform the promised functionalities, yet following activation - they remain nonoperational.

PUAs can have unmentioned, heinous abilities. Some can force-open harmful pages. Adware-types run intrusive advert campaigns. Another type called browser hijackers operate by making modifications to browser settings and restricting/denying access to them - in order to promote fake search engines.

The promoted search engines are seldom able to provide search results, so they redirect to Google, Bing, Yahoo, and other genuine ones. What is more, most PUAs can track data. Information of interest includes: browsing and search engine histories, IP addresses, geolocations, and even personally identifiable details.

The collected data is then shared with and/or sold to third-parties (potentially, cyber criminals). In summary, unwanted software can lead to system infections, severe privacy issues, financial losses, and identity theft. Therefore, it is strongly advised to remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.

There are thousands of websites that use rogue advertising networks on the Internet; liveonscore.tvyoutube-to-mp3.orgx2convert.comMoviesjoyanitube.site - are just some examples. Visiting and/or using these sites can result in a wide variety of problems. Due to how widespread rogue webpages are, it is highly recommended to exercise caution when browsing.

How did adware install on my computer?

PUAs are distributed via download/installation setups of other programs. This false marketing method of packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions - is called "bundling".

Rushed download/installation processes (e.g., ignored terms, skipped steps and sections, used pre-set options, etc.) increase the risk of unintentionally allowing bundled content into the device. Intrusive advertisements spread PUAs as well. Once clicked on, the ads can execute scripts to download/install these applications without user consent.

PUAs may also have "official" promotional sites from which they can be downloaded.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

It is recommended to research software prior to download/installation and/or purchase. All downloads must be done from official and verified sources. Dubious download channels, e.g., unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks (Torrent clients, eMule, Gnutella, etc.), and other third party downloaders - often offer harmful and/or bundled content.

When downloading/installing, it is important to read terms, study possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out from additional apps, tools, features, and so on. Intrusive adverts appear ordinary and innocuous; however, they redirect to highly questionable webpages (e.g., gambling, adult-dating, pornography, and many others).

In case of encounters with ads and/or redirects of this kind, the system must be inspected and all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected - immediately upon detection. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
