Also Known As: Instagram Password Hacker scam website

What is "Instagram Password Hacker"?

"Instagram Password Hacker" is a scam run on various deceptive websites. This scheme is presented as a hacking service allowing users to steal Instagram social media accounts by entering their usernames.

The aim of "Instagram Password Hacker" is to promote untrustworthy and malicious sites, namely phishing webpages. Typically, users access deceptive/scam sites via mistyped URLs, redirects caused by intrusive advertisements, or have them force-opened by installed PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications).

Instagram Password Hacker scam

To use the "Instagram Password Hacker" services, users are asked to enter Instagram account names or usernames and click "Hack". Supposedly, by doing so - users will be able to fraudulently obtain the corresponding account passwords.

However, by attempting to use this scam, users will get redirected to a variety of dangerous sites. At the time of research, this scheme promoted a phishing website.

Pages of this type are designed to record the information provided to them - for the purpose of putting it to malicious use. Targeted data can include: names, surnames, addresses, emails, telephone numbers, banking account details, credit card numbers, etc.

The collected information can be monetized by being sold to third-parties (potentially, cyber criminals) and/or used to further personalized scams. Financial data can be used by scammers to make fraudulent transactions and/or online purchases.

One of the phishing sites pushed by the "Instagram Password Hacker" scheme - targets telephone numbers. The webpage states that the user's file has been prepared for download, and they have to send an SMS to get it.

It is noteworthy that downloadable content offered by such websites is often malicious. For example, these pages can proliferate trojans, ransomware, cryptocurrency miners, and other malware.

To summarize, by trusting "Instagram Password Hacker" - users can experience system infections, severe privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft. As mentioned in the introduction, should a browser be automatically opening dubious webpages - it is likely to be due to installed PUAs.

However, these apps can have additional/different heinous functionalities. Adware-types run intrusive advertisement campaigns.

The delivered ads pose a threat to device/user safety. Once clicked on, intrusive advertisements redirect to harmful sites, and some can download/install software without user permission.

Browser hijackers are another type of PUAs. They promote fake search engines by making modifications to browser settings. The promoted web searchers are seldom able to provide search results, so they redirect to Google, Yahoo, Bing, and other genuine ones.

Furthermore, most PUAs have data tracking abilities. They monitor browsing activity and collect sensitive information extracted from it (IP addresses/ geolocations, personally identifiable details, and other vulnerable data).

PUA developers monetize the collected data by sharing it with and/or selling it to third-parties, likewise intent on misusing it for profit. Therefore, to ensure device integrity and user privacy, it is crucial to immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins.

"TikTok Followers Hack", "Fortnite Hack Generator", "TikTok Verified Badge Generator", "PUBG hack", "Memorama hack", and "Among Us Free Items" are some examples of schemes similar to "Instagram Password Hacker". The Internet is rife with misleading, deceptive, and malicious material.

There are various scams on the web, popular models include: unbelievable deals, fake prize giveaways and raffles, warnings that the device is infected, alerts that a software product is outdated or missing, and so on.

Regardless of what scams claim or offer, the end-goal is the same - to generate revenue for the developers. Due to how prevalent online schemes are, it is strongly advised to exercise caution when browsing.

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?

PUAs can be downloaded/installed together with other programs. This false marketing technique of packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions - is called "bundling".

Rushed download/installation processes (e.g., ignored terms, used "Easy/Express" settings, etc.) increase the risk of allowing bundled content into the system. Intrusive advertisements proliferate PUAs as well.

Upon being clicked, these ads can execute scripts to make stealthy downloads/installations. PUAs may also have "official" download webpages.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

It is recommended to research software before download/installation and/or purchase. Furthermore, all content must be downloaded from official and verified sources only.

Untrustworthy download channels, e.g., unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks (Torrent clients, eMule, Gnutella, etc.), and other third-party downloaders - commonly offer hazardous and/or bundled content. When downloading/installing, it is important to read terms, explore available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings, and opt-out from additional apps, tools, features, and so forth.

Intrusive adverts appear ordinary and harmless; however, they redirect to various unreliable and questionable sites (e.g., adult-dating, gambling, pornography, and many others). In case of encounters with ads and/or redirects of this kind, the system must be checked and all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected - removed from it without delay.

If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
