What is budscanner[.]com?

budscanner[.]com redirects visitors to various other untrustworthy, potentially malicious web pages. Typically, people do not visit websites such as budscanner[.]com intentionally.

In most cases, they arrive at them after clicking dubious, deceptive advertisements, through visiting rogue websites, or they are redirected to them by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) installed on their browsers and/or operating systems.

budscanner[.]com pop-up redirects gif

budscanner[.]com opens one page that offers to update Adobe Flash Player. The problem with websites of this type (pages such as fixheavilyadvancedprogram[.]icu and many others) is that they download fake updaters/installers that do not install any updates or new versions.

They are designed simply to trick people into using 'installers' that install various potentially unwanted applications (PUAs). For example, browser hijackers, adware. In some cases, they infect systems with malicious programs such as ransomware, Trojans, or other malware.

Do not use these sites as download sources for files/software that supposedly update legitimate software (such as Adobe Flash Player) or install new versions. This can also lead to serious problems such as financial, data loss, identity theft, problems relating to online privacy, browsing safety, installation of various malware, and so on.

Furthermore, budscanner[.]com opens deceptive websites (including apple.com-clea-os[.]live) that display fake notifications about detected viruses, errors, etc. These sites are used to trick people into downloading and installing rogue software (such as Advanced Mac Cleaner) that supposed remove the viruses/errors or fix other problems.

Research shows that budscanner[.]com leads to a number of different rogue sites that load dubious content or open a number of other untrustworthy, potentially malicious sites. These sites commonly use 'clickbait' techniques to trick visitors into giving permission to show notifications.

If allowed, they start to display notifications, which usually contain links to untrustworthy websites, deceptive advertisements and other content that should not be trusted. No web pages opened by budscanner[.]com can be trusted.

Another example of a website with identical operation to budscanner[.]com (i.e., opens various dubious sites) is yourmobistyle[.]com. As mentioned, browsers often open these sites due to installed PUAs. Typically, people download and install these apps unintentionally.

How did adware install on my computer?

This usually happens when people click deceptive ads or download/install software without dismissing offers to download/install additional apps. Unwanted downloads and installations also occur when deceptive ads run scripts designed to download and/or install unwanted apps.

In other cases, PUAs are downloaded/installed when they are included into various download/installation set-ups. Typically, information about additionally-included apps can be found in options of set-ups such as "Custom", "Advanced", etc. Many people leave these settings unchanged, thus allowing PUAs to be downloaded and installed through the set-ups of other programs.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

Do not use third party software downloaders/installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (torrent clients, eMule etc.), dubious, unofficial websites or other similar sources/channels to download or install software. Use only official, trustworthy websites and direct download links.

Check settings such as "Advanced" or "Custom" available in the setup and dismiss offers to download or install additional, unwanted apps - otherwise they are downloaded and installed together with regular software. Do not click intrusive advertisements, especially if they are displayed on untrustworthy web pages.

When clicked, they can redirect people to potentially malicious sites or cause unwanted downloads/installations. If unwanted redirects happen often and/or ads appear on most/all visited websites, we recommend that you uninstall all unwanted, unknown extensions, plug-ins and add-ons from the browser.

Also apply this to programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
