Stream Club browser hijacker removal instructions
What is Stream Club?
Stream Club is a browser hijacker, designed to promote tailsearch.com - a fake search engine. Typically, rogue software within this classification operates by making changes to browser settings to promote certain illegitimate search engines. However, Stream Club does not always affect the settings of hijacked browsers. Furthermore, browser hijackers spy on users' browsing activity and Stream Club is not an exception to this. Due to the dubious techniques used to promote Stream Club, it is also considered to be a PUA (Potentially Unwanted Application).
Browser hijackers usually operate by assigning the addresses of fake web searchers as browsers' homepage, default search engine and new tab/window URLs. Hence, with such a piece of software installed: every new browser tab/window opened and search query typed into the URL bar - redirect to the promoted address. In some cases, Stream Club makes these modifications to browsers and the aforementioned actions cause such redirects. Illegitimate search engines are rarely able to provide search results, so they redirect or cause redirection chains leading to Google, Yahoo, Bing and other genuine ones. Tailsearch.com cannot generate search results, however where it redirects to - depends on users' geolocations. At the time of research, tailsearch.com either redirected straight to the Google (google.com) search engine or caused a redirection chain consisting of my-search.com, search-checker.com and ending in the Bing (bing.com) search engine. In addition, browser hijackers can reassign any changes users attempt to make to their browsers and/or restrict/deny access to the browsers' settings outright. Therefore, it is impossible to recover a hijacked browser without removing the software affecting it. As mentioned in the introduction, Stream Club has data tracking abilities. It can monitor browsing activity (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and collect personal information inferred from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). This sensitive data is then monetized by being shared with and/or sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals). In summary, presence of data-tracking content on devices can result in serious privacy issues, financial losses and even identity theft. To ensure device integrity and user safety, it is crucial to remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.

WebIncognitoSearch, WRTenets, FreeStreamSearch and FindConverterSearch are some examples of other browser hijackers. They appear legitimate and harmless. Users are enticed into download/installation with offers of various "handy" functionalities. However, the advertised functions are seldom operational. In fact, this is true of practically all PUAs. Unwanted apps have but one goal - to generate revenue for the developers; to users - they have no real value and may cause severe problems. PUAs are designed to hijack browsers, cause redirects, deliver intrusive advertisement campaigns (adware), and gather private data.
How did Stream Club install on my computer?
Select PUAs (e.g. Stream Club) have "official" promotional sites, from which they can be downloaded. These applications can also be downloaded/installed together with other products. This false marketing technique of pre-packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions - is called "bundling". Rushed download/installation processes (e.g. ignored terms, used "Easy/Express" settings, etc.) increase the risk of unintentionally allowing bundled content into the system. Intrusive advertisements can infiltrate PUAs into systems as well. Once clicked on, the ads can execute scripts to make stealthy downloads/installations.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is recommended to research software products prior to download/installation and/or purchase. Only official and verified download channels must be used. Since untrustworthy download sources, e.g. unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks and other third party downloaders - commonly offer deceptive and/or bundled content. When downloading/installing, it is important to read terms, explore all possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out from additional apps, tools, features, etc. Intrusive adverts appear ordinary, however they redirect to various questionable webpages (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, and so on). In case of encounters with ads and/or redirects of this kind, the system must be inspected and all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected - immediately removed from it. If your computer is already infected with Stream Club, we recommend running a scan with Malwarebytes for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
