How to eliminate UltraSystem adware from the operating system?

Also Known As: Ads by UltraSystem
Type: Mac Virus
Damage level: Medium

What is UltraSystem?

UltraSystem is an adware-type app with browser hijacker abilities. It is designed to run intrusive ad campaigns, and it can promote fake search engines. Furthermore, software products of this type - are also classified as PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications). It is noteworthy that UltraSystem has been observed being spread via fake Adobe Flash Player updates.

UltraSystem adware overview

Adware enables the placement of pop-ups, banners, surveys, and other intrusive advertisements - on any visited website and/or different interfaces. The displayed ads endorse various untrustworthy, sale-oriented, rogue, deceptive/scam, and malicious websites. What is more, some intrusive adverts can download/install software (e.g., PUAs) stealthily - upon being clicked.

Browser hijackers assign fake search engine addresses as browser's default, and their homepage and new tab/window URLs. Hence, new browser tabs/windows opened and search queries typed via the URL bar - redirect to said address. Fraudulent search engines usually cannot provide search results, so they redirect to Google, Yahoo, Bing, and other legitimate ones. This software also uses persistence-ensuring methods to prevent browser recovery.

Adware and browser hijackers usually have data tracking abilities. The gathered data (e.g., browsing and search engines histories, IP addresses, personally identifiable details, finance-related information, etc.) is then shared with and/or sold to third-parties.

In summary, the presence of unwanted apps on devices can result in system infections, severe privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft.

Adware in general

WideClusterCompactFilterMultiSetCoreSource, and EdgeAdvanced are some examples of adware. This software appears legitimate and offers "useful" functions, which typically do not work. In fact, this is true of nearly all PUAs. The sole purpose of unwanted applications is to generate revenue for the developers; hence, functionality and user safety are irrelevant.

How did UltraSystem install on my computer?

PUAs are proliferated using the "bundling" marketing technique - packing regular programs with various additions. Rushed download/installation processes (e.g., skipped steps and sections, etc.) increase the risk of allowing bundled content into the device.

Additionally, once clicked on, the adverts can download/install PUAs without user consent. Some of these apps also have "official" promotional/download webpages.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

It is highly recommended to research software and only download from official/verified sources. Untrustworthy download channels, e.g., unofficial and freeware websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, etc. - often offer bundled/harmful content.

When downloading/installing, it is advised to read terms, study possible options, and use the "Custom/Advanced" settings to opt-out from all supplements. Intrusive advertisements appear legitimate, yet they redirect to dubious sites (e.g., gambling, pornography, adult-dating, etc.).

In case of encounters with such ads and/or redirects, the system must be checked and all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected - immediately removed. If your computer is already infected with UltraSystem, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
