What is POLITIE Belgique Police Fédérale?

The POLITIE Belgique Police Fédérale message blocks computer screens ordering payment of a 100 Euro fine to unblock it. This is a scam, a virus (ransomware infection) created by cyber criminals targeting PC users predominantly from Belgium.

The deceptive message displayed by this ransomware states that the user is required to pay a fine for watching pornography or downloading and distributing copyrighted content such as music, videos, etc. No international authorities or other organizations use such methods (blocking computer screens) to collect fines for any law violations.

This message is developed and distributed by cyber criminals in the hope that unsuspecting PC users fall for their trickery and pay the bogus fine.

In fact, paying the 100 Euro fine is equivalent to sending your money directly to cyber criminals. This particular ransomware originates from a family of screen lockers called Urausy. Rogue messages from this family are localized and capable of adapting their interface according to the targeted country (i.e. the ransomware can detect IP addresses of the computers it infects).

For example, an infected PC located in the USA receives the deceptive message as if sent by the FBI Cybercrime Division, and users located in Canada as if sent by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
