Do not download/install apps promoted by the allbestsecureeu.com scam site

Also Known As: allbestsecureeu.com pop-up
Type: Mac Virus
Damage level: Medium

What is allbestsecureeu[.]com?

allbestsecureeu[.]com is a deceptive website running various scams. At the time of research, the site promoted three variants of a scam claiming that visitors must either download/install or update Virtual Private Network (VPN) software. This type of scheme is used to endorse various untrusted and possibly malicious apps.

Such scams typically promote fake anti-viruses, adware, browser hijackers and other Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs). Most users access allbestsecureeu[.]com and similar web pages unintentionally, through mistyped URLs, redirects caused by intrusive advertisements or by PUAs already installed onto the systems.

allbestsecureeu[.]com scam variant

The scams run on allbestsecureeu[.]com primarily target iPhone users, however, it is often accessed on other Apple devices. All of the versions are intended to trick visitors into downloading a dubious VPN app.

The first variant attempts to cause alarm by stating that users' browsing activity may be monitored by someone, and that their iPhones may be accessible to third parties. This scam then lists the download/installation steps of the recommended VPN. The second variant states that users' VPNs must be updated. It mentions that, due to the aforementioned software being outdated, some web pages may be displayed incorrectly. The third version uses a more promotional approach. It details the features of the endorsed VPN and otherwise lauds its usefulness.

As mentioned, the content hosted on allbestsecureeu[.]com is deceptive and designed to scam users. By trusting the schemes promoted on this site (i.e. by downloading/installing the advertised software products), users can experience system infections, serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identity theft.

PUAs often seem legitimate and harmless and offer a broad range of useful functionalities, however, these functions are seldom operational. Fake anti-virus tools are a prime example of this. They require activation (i.e. purchase) to perform the promised features, yet following activation, they remain nonfunctional.

These unwanted applications can have various unmentioned and dangerous abilities. PUAs can force-open bogus, deceptive and even malicious websites (including allbestsecureeu[.]com). Adware-types deliver pop-ups, banners, coupons and other intrusive ads. These diminish the browsing experience and, once clicked, can redirect to untrustworthy/dangerous sites, and some can even stealthily download/install software.

Browser hijackers are other PUAs that modify browser settings and restrict/deny access to them to promote fake search engines. The promoted web searchers are rarely able to provide search results, and so they tend to redirect to Google, Yahoo, Bing and other legitimate search engines.

Furthermore, most PUAs (regardless of type) can track data. Information of interest includes: browsing and search engine histories, IP addresses, geolocations, and other personally identifiable data. The collected information is then monetized by sharing with and/or sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals).

Therefore, to ensure device and user safety, all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins must be eliminated without delay.

Ivpnconfig.comsecurityvpnapp.comsecuritymobile.clubservice24.report and iossecure.com are some examples of other deceptive sites similar to allbestsecureeu[.]com. The web is full of scams, which use different techniques to gain and abuse users' trust.

Popular scam models are: alerts that an important piece of software is outdated or missing, warnings that the device is infected, fake prize giveaways and lotteries, "unbelievable" deals and offers, etc. The schemes might promote dubious/malicious software, attempt to extract sensitive/personal information, trick users into paying bogus fees, and so on. Regardless of how these scams operate, their purpose is identical: to generate revenue for the scammers/cyber criminals behind them.

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?

PUAs are often downloaded/installed together with other products. This deceptive marketing technique of pre-packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions is called "bundling". By rushing through download/installation of software (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps and sections, using "Quick/Express" settings, etc.) many users risk unintentionally allowing bundled content into their devices.

Intrusive advertisements proliferate PUAs as well. When clicked, the ads can execute scripts to download/install these applications without users' permission. Some PUAs have "official" download web pages from which they can be downloaded.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

You are advised to research all software before download/installation. Use only official and verified download channels. Unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks (BitTorrent, Gnutella, eMule), and other third party downloaders commonly offer harmful and bundled content, and are therefore untrusted and should be avoided.

When downloading/installing, read the terms, study all possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, features, and so on. Intrusive advertisements typically seem legitimate, however, they can redirect to dubious and malicious sites (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, and many others).

If you encounter ads or redirects of this kind, inspect the system and remove all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately.

If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
