How to remove ProcesserLog adware from Mac?
What is ProcesserLog?
ProcesserLog is a dubious application classified as adware. It also has browser hijacker traits. This app operates by running intrusive advertisement campaigns and makes alterations to browser settings - in order to promote fake search engines. Since most users download/install ProcesserLog inadvertently, it is considered to be a PUA (Potentially Unwanted Application). PUAs typically have data tracking abilities, which are used to collect browsing-related information.
Adware enables the placement of surveys, pop-ups, banners, coupons, full-page, and other intrusive adverts - typically on any visited website. The delivered advertisements overlay page content and slow down the browsing speed. Furthermore, these ads pose a threat to device/user safety. Once clicked on, the adverts redirect to various unreliable/malicious sites and some can stealthily download/install software (e.g., PUAs).
Browser hijackers assign the addresses of fake web searchers as browsers' homepage, default search engine, and new tab/window URLs. Hence, every single search query typed into the URL bar and new browser tab/window opened - redirect to the promoted address. Illegitimate search engines are usually unable to provide search results, so they redirect to (or cause redirection chains ending with) Google, Yahoo, Bing, and other genuine ones. Browser hijackers ensure persistence by restricting/denying access to the browser's settings and/or undoing any permitted changes made. Therefore, it is impossible to recover a hijacked browser without removing the software affecting it.
Most PUAs (adware and browser hijackers included) track data. They monitor browsing activity (browsing and search engine histories) and gather personal information inferred from it (IP addresses, geolocations, and other details). PUA developers monetize this data by sharing it with and/or selling it to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals). To summarize, presence of unwanted apps on devices can lead to system infections, serious privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft. To protect device integrity and user privacy, all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins must be removed without delay.

InitialDevice, ProductUpgrade, OpticalPartition, and DominantPartition are some examples of other adware-type applications. They appear legitimate and offer "handy" features. However, these functionalities rarely work as promised, and in most cases - they do not work at all. This is true of practically all PUAs. The only goal of unwanted software is to generate profit at user expense. Therefore, instead of delivering on any promises, PUAs can run intrusive advert campaigns, hijack browsers, cause redirects, and collect vulnerable data.
How did ProcesserLog install on my computer?
PUAs can be downloaded/installed together with other programs. This false marketing technique of packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions - is termed "bundling". By rushing through download/installation processes (e.g., by ignoring terms, skipping steps, etc.) - users risk unintentionally allowing bundled content into their devices. Intrusive advertisements proliferate PUAs as well; once clicked on, the ads can execute scripts to download/install these applications without user consent. PUAs may also have "official" download sites.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is important to research software prior to download/installation and/or purchase. All downloads must be done from official and verified sources. Since untrustworthy download channels, e.g., unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, and other third party downloaders - often offer deceptive and/or bundled content. When downloading/installing, it is advised to read terms, study all available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out from additional apps, tools, features, etc. Intrusive adverts appear legitimate; however, they redirect to highly unreliable and questionable sites (e.g., adult-dating, gambling, pornography, and so on). Should users encounter ads and/or redirects of this kind, they must inspect their devices and immediately remove all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected. If your computer is already infected with ProcesserLog, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
