Badut Clowns ransomware removal instructions
What is Badut Clowns?
Badut Clowns is malicious software, ransomware designed to encrypt files and display a ransom message in a pop-up window and on the background image. Badut Clowns is a part of Jigsaw ransomware and was discovered by MalwareHunterTeam. This ransomware modifies all encrypted files and changes filenames by adding the ".badutclowns" extension. To decrypt files, victims are encouraged to pay a ransom to the cyber criminals who developed Badut Clowns.
The pop-up window states that only the developers behind this ransomware can provide a decryption service. They demand to be paid $200 in Bitcoins within one hour of encryption. If the ransom is not paid on time, cyber criminals will lock all data permanently. They also claim that the computer hard disk will be destroyed and they threaten to proliferate this malware on other devices that are connected to the same network. To pay the ransom, victims must use a Bitcoin wallet address provided within the countdown timer, however, we advise against this, since they are unlikely to provide any details about how to decrypt files. Victims who trust cyber criminals and pay are often scammed. Unfortunately, most ransomware-type programs use strong cryptography algorithms that are impossible to 'crack'. Therefore, the only way to decode files is to use decryption tools and/or keys held only by the cyber criminals. Since these people cannot be trusted, we advise you to recover your files from a backup only. There is currently no other free or safe way to restore files.

Typically, ransomware-type programs lock files so that victims are forced to pay ransoms. Some examples of other malware of this type includes Cales, DCRTR-WDM, and shade8. In most cases, the main differences are cost of decryption software/key and cryptographic algorithm (symmetric or asymmetric) used for encryption. In some rare cases, files can be decrypted without having to contact ransomware developers, however, only if ransomware is still in development and contains bugs/flaws. To avoid data and financial loss, maintain data backups and store them on an unplugged storage device or remote server, such as Cloud. This will prevent backups from being encrypted together with other data.

How to protect yourself from ransomware infections
Avoid using third party software downloaders, installers, and other such tools to download or install programs. The safest way to achieve this is to use official and trustworthy websites. Update installed software via implemented functions or tools provided by software developers. Do not open attachments that are presented in emails received from unknown, suspicious email addresses (the same applies to web links). Installed programs should be activated properly. Note that unofficial activation tools are illegal and can distribute malware. Have reputable anti-spyware or anti-virus software installed and keep it up-to-date. If your computer is already infected with Badut Clowns, we recommend running a scan with Spyhunter for Windows to automatically eliminate this ransomware.
