Paradise .xyz ransomware removal instructions

What is Paradise .xyz?

Paradise .xyz is a new variant of Paradise and was discovered by MalwareHunterTeam. This computer infection is categorized as ransomware: it encrypts data and blocks the access to it unless the ransom is paid. Paradise .xyz renames each encrypted file by adding an extension, which contains a unique victim ID and an email address. For example, "1.jpg" might be renamed to "1.jpg_Qe9Qu6Ev6u11D6vD_{admin@prt-decrypt.xyz}.xyz". Furthermore, Paradise .xyz creates an "Instructions with your files.txt" file and opens a pop-up window.

The "Instructions with your files.txt" ransom message states that, to receive the decryption tool, Paradise .xyz victims must contact cyber criminals via the admin@prt-decrypt.xyz or admin@prt-decrypt.xyz email addresses. According to the information in the pop-up window, this infection was caused due to a 'security problem'. To decrypt the files, users are encouraged to first pay a ransom using the Bitcoin cryptocurrency. The cost is unknown, however, cyber criminals claim that this depends on how quickly they are contacted. They promise victims that once their ransom demands are met, they will send a decryption tool. Furthermore, Paradise .xyz's developers offer free decryption of 1-3 files as a 'guarantee' that they can be trusted, however, they also warn victims not to try to decrypt files using any other tool, rename files, use anti-virus, or uninstall Paradise .xyz. They say any attempts to do so might cause permanent data loss. Despite these statements, do not trust any ransomware developers or other cyber criminals. They often ignore victims once payments are submitted. Any requests to contact them or pay ransoms should be ignored. Unfortunately, there are no tools capable of restoring data encrypted by Paradise .xyz free of charge. The only possible (and free) solution is to restore everything from a backup created previously. Most cyber criminals use encryption algorithms (symmetric or asymmetric) that generate unique keys. Typically, these are the only tools that can decrypt the data, however, cyber criminals store them on remote servers and only they have access.

Dharma-Gif, Obfuscated, and GandCrab 5.1 are just some examples of many other ransomware-type infections similar to Paradise .xyz. These programs encrypt data and keep it locked until ransoms are paid. These infections differ in terms of cryptography algorithm used for encryption and cost of decryption tool/key. Most cyber criminals use encryptions that cannot be cracked without their involvement, otherwise this is only possible if the ransomware is not fully developed or contains bugs/flaws. Therefore, create regular backups and store them on remote servers or unplugged storage devices. Locally stored backups will probably be encrypted with regular data.

How did ransomware infect my computer?

It is not known exactly how cyber criminals proliferate this particular infection, however, most developers distribute ransomware through untrustworthy software download sources, fake (unofficial) software updaters, spam email campaigns, and other malicious programs such as Trojans. Examples of untrustworthy software download sources are peer-to-peer networks (torrent clients, eMule, and so on), freeware download websites, file hosting websites, various third party downloaders, installers, and so on. Using these sources, cyber criminals often successfully trick people into downloading and installing high-risk infections (or other unwanted programs). Unofficial software update tools are used to download and install malicious programs rather than the promised updates. Tools of this type are also capable of exploiting bugs and flaws of outdated software. Spam campaigns are used to trick people into opening presented malicious attachments or opening links that lead to installation of malicious software. These attachments are usually Microsoft Office documents (such as Word, Excel, etc.), archive files (ZIP, RAR, and others), PDF documents, executable files (.exe), and so on. Trojans proliferate computer infections - they are malicious programs that, if installed, proliferate other viruses and thus cause chain infections.

How to protect yourself from ransomware infections?

To avoid computer infiltration by ransomware (and other infections), carefully analyze each received email, especially if it contains an attachment. If it seem irrelevant or is sent from an unknown/suspicious address, do not download or open the attachment, or the presented web link. Use official software update tools - implemented functions or tools provided by official software developers. Any other tools should not be trusted or used. Download applications/software (or other files) using official websites or official channels. Do not use third party sources, since they often proliferate rogue downloaders, installers, or even malware. The same applies to software updates - keep installed programs updated, however, this should be achieved through implemented functions or tools provided by the official developer. Have a reputable anti-virus or anti-spyware suite installed and active/enabled. Tools of this type often detect and eliminate threats before any damage is done. If your computer is already infected with Paradise .xyz, we recommend running a scan with Spyhunter for Windows to automatically eliminate this ransomware.

If you cannot start your computer in Safe Mode with Networking (or with Command Prompt), boot your computer using a rescue disk. Some variants of ransomware disable Safe Mode making its removal complicated. For this step, you require access to another computer.

To regain control of the files encrypted by Paradise .xyz, you can also try using a program called Shadow Explorer. More information on how to use this program is available here.
