2k19sys ransomware removal instructions

What is 2k19sys?

Belonging to Paradise ransomware family, 2k19sys is high-risk ransomware discovered by malware researcher mol69. It is designed to stealthily infiltrate computers and encrypt most stored data, thereby making it unusable. During encryption, 2k19sys appends filenames with the victim's unique ID, developer's email address, and ".2k19sys" extension. For example, "sample.jpg" might be renamed to a filename such as "sample.jpp_T8JEa8_{file@p-security.li}.2k19sys". Additionally, 2k19sys opens a pop-up window and stores a text file ("-=###_INFO_you_FILE_###=-.txt") on the desktop.

The new text file contains a short message stating that files are encrypted and encourages users to contact developers for more information. The pop-up window, on the other hand, provides much more detail. It is stated that files are encrypted and that victims must purchase a decryption tool to restore them. The cost is not specified, but supposedly depends on how quickly victims contact 2k19sys developers. Nevertheless, the size of ransom usually fluctuates between $500 and $1500. The message also states that payment must be submitted using the Bitcoin cryptocurrency. It is currently unknown whether 2k19sys uses symmetric or asymmetric cryptography, however, each victim receives a unique decryption key, which is necessary to restore data. All keys are stored on a remote server controlled by cyber criminals. Therefore, victims are encouraged to submit payments to receive a decryption tool with the key embedded within. Additionally, victims are permitted to attach up to two selected files (less than 1 MB each). Criminals will restore and return these files to 'prove' that decryption is possible and that these people can be trusted. In fact, this is merely an attempt to gain the victim's trust. Cyber criminals often ignore victims once they submit payments. Thus, paying usually gives no positive result and users are scammed. We strongly recommend that you ignore all requests to submit payments or even contact these people. Unfortunately, there are no tools capable of restoring data encrypted by 2k19sys free of charge. The only solution is to restore everything from a backup, if one has been created.

2k19sys decrypt instructions

The Internet is full of ransomware that shares similarities with 2k19sys (e.g., Virus Hermes, Sysfrog, Actin, and similar). As with 2k19sys, most of these infections encrypt data so that developers could blackmail victims by offering paid recovery of files. Ransomware infections typically encrypt data using RSA, AES, and other similar algorithms that generate unique decryption keys. Therefore, if the virus is fully developed and has no bugs or flaws, manual decryption without developers involvement is impossible. Ransomware presents a strong case for maintaining regular backups, however, store them on a remote server (e.g., Cloud) or unplugged storage device. Locally stored backups are compromised together with regular data. Additionally, have multiple backup copies stored in different locations, since there is always the chance that devices and servers can be damaged.

How did ransomware infect my computer?

To proliferate ransomware infections, developers usually employ unofficial software download sources, spam email campaigns, trojans, and fake software updaters/cracks. Freeware download websites, free file hosting sites, Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks, and other unofficial sources are used to proliferate malware by presenting it as legitimate software. In this way, users are tricked into manually downloading and installing malware. Spam campaigns are also used in a similar manner. Criminals send hundreds of thousands of emails containing of malicious attachments (links/files) and messages encouraging users to open them. The attachments are often presented as important documents in attempts to give the impression of legitimacy and trick users into believing that they should open them. Trojans are malicious applications that stealthily infiltrate computers by injecting additional malware. Fake updaters typically infect computers by exploiting outdated software bugs/flaws or downloading/installing malware rather than the updates. The same applies to software cracks - rather than enabling paid features, these tools inject malware into the system. In summary, the main reasons for computer infections are poor knowledge of these threats and careless behavior.

How to protect yourself from ransomware infections?

The key to computer safety is caution. Therefore, pay close attention during the download/installation/update processes, and when browsing the Internet. Download software from official sources only, using direct download links. Third party downloaders/installers often include rogue apps, and thus these tools should never be used. Software should be updated using implemented functions or tools provided by the official developer. Bear in mind that software piracy is considered a cyber crime. Furthermore, the risk of infections is extremely high. Therefore, cracking installed applications should never be considered. Handle all email attachments with care. Files/links received from suspicious/unrecognizable email addresses should never be opened. The same applies to attachments that are irrelevant. Finally, have a reputable anti-virus/anti-spyware suite installed and running at all times. This software can detect and eliminate malware before the system is harmed. If your computer is already infected with 2k19sys, we recommend running a scan with Spyhunter for Windows to automatically eliminate this ransomware.

7. After restoring your computer to a previous date, download and scan your PC with recommended malware removal software to eliminate any remaining 2k19sys ransomware files.

To restore individual files encrypted by this ransomware, try using Windows Previous Versions feature. This method is only effective if the System Restore function was enabled on an infected operating system. Note that some variants of 2k19sys are known to remove Shadow Volume Copies of the files, so this method may not work on all computers.

To restore a file, right-click over it, go into Properties, and select the Previous Versions tab. If the relevant file has a Restore Point, select it and click the "Restore" button.

If you cannot start your computer in Safe Mode with Networking (or with Command Prompt), boot your computer using a rescue disk. Some variants of ransomware disable Safe Mode making its removal complicated. For this step, you require access to another computer.

To regain control of the files encrypted by 2k19sys, you can also try using a program called Shadow Explorer. More information on how to use this program is available here.

To protect your computer from file encryption ransomware such as this, use reputable antivirus and anti-spyware programs. As an extra protection method, you can use programs called HitmanPro.Alert and EasySync CryptoMonitor, which artificially implant group policy objects into the registry to block rogue programs such as 2k19sys ransomware.

Note that Windows 10 Fall Creators Update includes a "Controlled Folder Access" feature that blocks ransomware attempts to encrypt your files. By default, this feature automatically protects files stored in the Documents, Pictures, Videos, Music, Favorites as well as Desktop folders.

Controll Folder Access

Windows 10 users should install this update to protect their data from ransomware attacks. Here is more information on how to get this update and add an additional protection layer from ransomware infections.
